Beef Stocker USA 2008 Survey of the Animal Identification Industry

Responding Company: AgInfoLink USA
Survey Section: Data Storage

Company:

AgInfoLink USA

Web-based Data Storage:

YES

Centralized Database:

All data collected by customers remains decentralized in the customers’ local database.  AgInfoLink’s automated data sharing system copies locally collected data to AgInfoLink’s centralized Private Data Sharing Network.

Transfer Data:

Since AgInfoLink's data architecture is non-centralized, the data transfer to Pony Express™ is a one button push once the initial configuration is set up. The Share Data component has a tracking database so only new data is sent in a proprietary compressed, secure file. Thus, keeping that data transfer file very small. Once the data is received at Pony Express, it is then automatically trusted to the appropriate alliance or organization Price Data Network (PDN). The data is also automatically securely shared with pre-authorized individuals or groups. If the producer is a member of an alliance that has a website for reporting, benchmarking and analysis then the data is automatically integrated into the website data mart.

Backup:

For each Private Data Sharing Network (PDSN) there are several backup dimensions. There are near real-time redundant cloned machines in different geographical data centers for an added fault-tolerant system. All producer level data is backed up on the Pony Express PDSN. For PDSNs with a web service, we provide hard drive backups for very quick disaster recovery. In the cost of hardware corruption on a web server, we would simply re-direct the website to another IP address of the cloned data.

Access:

Producers have immediate access to data they have collected locally.  For web-based reporting, the producer would simply need a computer with a web-browser as the web sites are "thin client" and do not require an additional software installation. Once on the website, the user would then login to the site using a secure username and password assigned through the organization or alliance.

Security Features:

AgInfoLink's systems have security features at multiple levels including Secure Socket Layer (SSL) communication.  AgInfoLink systems include best in class secure server systems and off site back up and disaster recovery plans.

Hardware:

Any hardware that supports web-browser software such as Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator

Share Data:

Absolutely, that is what AgInfoLink is about…connecting data through Pony Express. We not only share directly to the appropriate Private Data Sharing Network, but with authorization, to third-party data marts such as government ID programs, breeding associations, etc. We also provide any other software program the ability to "hook" into our software for real-time interfacing.

Open Database Connectivity:

Yes. We use Microsoft's Active Data Objects for our data access layer. Any database with ODBC or OLE drivers will be supported.

Web Tools:

Yes

Describe Tools:

We have a wide range of tools from filtering and sorting to drill-down capabilities. Depending on the needs of the Private Data Sharing Network, be it an Alliance, Organization or other, we can provide benchmarking analysis of how one producer's cattle perform against all others within the organization or one other "like" producer by size and geographic region. By utilizing our integrated tools, producers can also dynamically create the type of reports and analysis that they think will be most useful to them. We can also integrate producer data with geo-spatial analytical framework and data to create unique information to support their decisions.

Use Fees:

AgInfoLink charges a per entity, per-head enrollment fee. As part of the enrollment, users have the ability to collect information through AgInfoLink systems, access to that information locally (and online depending on the specific PDSN), the ability to share appropriate data, and access to a series of reporting and analytical tools.
